Royal Banquet hosted for Her Majesty The Queen Mother

Ahmedabad December 6, 2011: Her Majesty The Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck and Her Royal Highness Ashi Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck along with their royal entourage from Bhutan.

The day began with a visit to The Hutheesing Temple in Shahibaug at 10.00 am, where Royal Family members offered their prayers and moved on to Mr. Umang Hutheesing’s residence for a private viewing of his Royal Costumes Collection. The Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck who is herself a patron of textiles was delighted with the collection presented to her. She also showed keen interest in organizing a special display of the collection in Bhutan’s Textile museum. The viewing was followed by a private lunch with the Hutheesing Family at their residence.

Later in the evening Hutheesing Haveli was aglow in Royal Pomp. Red carpets were rolled out and trumpets blown and drums beaten as Her Majesty and Her Highness arrived at the royal reception. The police band played with gusto as the royal family proceeded to the temple for a special puja. Her Majesty was greeted by several Indian Royals who had gathered especially for the occasion. These included H.H. of Wankaner, H.H Bapa of Dhrangadhra, Yuvraj of Baroda, H.H. and Rani sahiba of Santrampur, H.H. and Rani sahiba Baria, Maharaja and Yuvraj of Sirohi and others.

Her Majesty and the royals guests were entertained with a mesmerizing kathak performance specially choregraphed by Ishira and Maulik Parikh’s group which was followed by the shower of rose petals and firework display of gun salutes. This entertainment was followed by the viewing of The Durbar Collection which was unveiled to her majesty and other royals for its global launch.

Royal dignitaries proceeded for the Royal Banquet. A seven course royal sit-down dinner was planned for the guests and was well co-ordinated with live violins and guitars supported by soft vocals by a young team of NID students who were delighted to play for the royal gathering.

Her Majesty and Mr. Hutheesing discussed various opportunities and collaboration between Bhutan and Gujarat in the fields of textiles, rich craft traditions and tourism opportunities to build bridges of friendship.

As a parting gift Hutheesing Family presented Her Majesty and Her Highness a uniquely crafted piece of garment from The Durbar Collection as a token of love from Ahmedabad to Bhutan.

For the first time in decades the walled city of Ahmedabad witnessed such a grand gathering of royal families and regal pomp.
